English Literature Curriculum
Middle and High School and Freebies
Sharon Watson is the author of our favorite English Literature and writing curriculum programs. The popular curriculum is extremely user friendly for homeschool parents and students. You can read more about the Illuminating Literature – When Worlds Collide curriculum and our reviews here.
The Illuminating Literature – Character in Crisis curriculum is next on our list! We’ve used enough of Sharon Watson’s products to know that it is excellent. Even my top critic (that would be our oldest son) was won over with the easy style of these programs. Now, don’t mistake that word “easy” for “non-challenging”. This curriculum will provide high school credits and prepare your teen for college studies.

Teaching Middle and High School Teens
If you have teenagers or preteens, you may have noticed that they aren’t always easy to please. Maybe it’s just my kids, but they are in that know-it-all stage where they are learning to find themselves. Don’t get me wrong, they are awesome kids, and a lot of fun. But teenagers live in this strange place where they are no longer children, but not yet adults. Somewhere in this process, they become critics. They are really just learning to think for themselves and becoming more independent. It’s a normal part of growing up. I’m not condoning rude behavior in teens, just that it can be wise to overlook some of their opinions. After all, we do want them to become confident in their own decision making abilities.
It was a pleasant surprise when my biggest critic, who is a techie and not a big fan of writing and literature, was immediately impressed with the Illuminating Literature Series. Right off the bat, he read that he wasn’t required or expected to always like the books on the classic reading list. I believe it was the encouragement to form his own opinions and write THAT, which won him over. In all of the Sharon Watson Curriculum we’ve seen, she puts the power in their hands. It’s a win win in our teenage household!
