Living as Example
Genesis 18:19 “For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”
“By DOING righteousness and justice” . . . with DOING being the key word!
Most parents have had the experience of having a child repeat words we have said, and then recognized our own statement as wrong as it is replayed – out of the mouth of babes. I have recognized both tone and words as having come from my own mouth, and realized only upon hearing it from my little ones – how wrong it actually sounded.
The whole chapter of Genesis 18 is the story of how God said He would bless the family of Abraham and all the other nations thereafter through him. Even when Sarah showed a lack of faith, and laughed at the news she would soon bear a child at her age, God blessed them anyways.
Even with their mistakes – God remained faithful in blessing their family! This is really good news for someone such as myself, who has made plenty of mistakes along the way. Verse 14 is another encouraging verse I like to claim in prayer for my family.
Whether using patience while driving down the road, helping others in the community, or cleaning house without complaining . . . the little ones are soaking up our example.
With Him – all is possible – NOTHING is too difficult for the Lord!
Let us go forward today and be the example to our children that we can be proud of as we hear our words and see our actions reflected in them. Amen?
